A proposal for the construction of 99 units, to be called Caparra La Nueva , was presented and finally funded.
It is located at 116 street corner of Madison Ave..
The 116th Street Block Association , a DHCR, Neighborhood Preservation Company (NPC) , in partnership with the Horsford & Poteat Realty ((HP Realty) propose to develop
the new construction of 55 affordable residential units at
three city owned lots, at 53 -57 East 115 street between Park and Madison Avenues. in east Harlem's community
Board 1 (CB11). Two of the city-owned lots are vacant, and the third lot is occupied by a small- outmoded building
that serves as an office for CB11. In addition to the residential units, it will include approximate space of
2,150 Sq. Ft. of commercial space that will serve as the new headquarters for Community Board 11. 1,350 Sq. Ft.
will be available for community space usage , 900 Sq. Ft. or the 116th Street Block Association headquarters. The proposed Colom Plaza project is an effort to address
the lack of affordable housing in a rapidly gentrifying neighborhood in the Upper Eastside.
Colon Plaza will provide safe affordable hoousing for low income families at risk of homelessnes. All Colon Plaza
residents will receive limited on-site services from the 116th St. Block Association.
