The 116 Th. Street Block Association was organized
In 1976 and incorporated in1979 by a group of residents
and community leaders witch suffered the devastating
effects of crime, drugs, unemployment abandonment
and bank disinvestments. The Association was created
to develop tenant’s potential through challenging and
meaningful workshops, leaderships, tenant / landlord
relations and housing advocacy in the areas of housing
code violations, complaints. Dispossessions and evictions
as well as provide housing management and assistance
services to ensure the development and maintenance
of adequate and affordable housing to promote
neighborhood stability. The majority of the population
we serve are persons below the median annual income,
elderly, and immigrants.
The overall mission of the association is stated in the
To provide the means for the people in the neighborhood
To obtain accurate and timely information concerning
Plans and programs affecting all aspects of community
To conclude: Our organization will aid and assist the
community in planning for neighborhood revitalization
and help with some problems related to inadequate
housing, recreation, schools and other community services.
Good Community is good business.
